A girl can dream....

Arm candy

It’s true I’m having a party! Whether your thick or thin, black or white, you’re all invited. The more the merrier! This is my wrist doing the talking, btw.

Who doesn’t love some arm candy? As you know it’s all about the wrist. Mix old pieces with new pieces, small pieces with larger pieces, coloured pieces with dark pieces.

An arm party acts as you focal piece. No need to pair this look with necklaces or ring, this is the star attraction.

I’ve put together 6 pieces – divided into silver and gold, from the highest price to lowest price point, to help you begin to mix and match.

Silver:

The only time you can refer to something on a woman as being chunky, can either relate to her scarf or her cuff (for all the males out there, make a mental note). This Collier de Chien from Hermes, is the modern twist to the classic leather band with silver or gold hardware.  Don’t be afraid to mix this piece with other coloured metals. Remember, anyone can wear studs – you don’t have to have your nose pierced, or jet black hair.

These click-clack enamel bangles come in any size and colour imaginable. One of the easiest pieces to wear in this collection. Wear all your H’s together for a casual look, or mix and match them with the other pieces featured for a more formal look. This bangle not only makes a great guest at an arm party, but also makes the perfect present. Trust me, any girl that is given one of these babies in an orange box will put you at the top of her guest list.

There is always one friend that brings the least expensive drink to a party (yes you know who that is), well this House of Harlow piece is that friend. The collection created by Nicole Richie is one that is easily sourced in stores, and comes in many different coloured leathers, with either silver or gold hardware. Best thing about this bangle, is that you can buy a whole stack of these, and you won’t break the bank.

Gold:

The big C word…Cartier. Appropriately named the ‘Love’ bracelet, this gorgeous piece is recognisable on nearly all celebrities. That doesn’t mean that you can’t afford these pieces (the celebrities either have multiples of these bracelets, or will have the diamond encrusted version). The ‘Love’ bangle, that gets locked onto your wrist via a Cartier scew (if you are going to own a screwdriver, you want it to be Cartier) comes in white gold, platinum, rose gold and gold. If you are going to splurge on only one bangle, this is the classic bangle  that will last you a lifetime.

This Celine gold ID bracelet, shows that you can be a little ‘gangsta’ without having the ability to rap like Kanye West. This bangle (which I won’t tell you has a matching necklace) comes in silver and gold. A perfect addition to any arm party.

And for those of you who love a splash of colour, this YSL cuff is for you. Again, this cuff comes in gold and silver, and a multitude of coloured stones (although the turquoise is my favourite!). The best thing about this piece is that every stone differs slightly, so even though you and your friend will both have a turquoise cuff, due to the natural elements in the stone, each piece will have a different finish. Think of it as your own couture cuff.

Remember there are no rules when it comes to arm candy. No combination is “wrong”. Have fun with your bangles and cuff. Email me your favourite combo jspstyling@gmail.com

2013 Billboard Music Awards

Ahh award season. The best time of the year. We get to see the beautiful extravagant gowns on our favourite (or not so favourite) celebs, with their gorgeous tamed locks, sun kissed tan, and flawless make-up. And then, there’s everybody else.

Here are the top 3 best and worst dressed for the Billboard Music Awards.

BEST:

Hayden Panettiere – Firstly, she has nailed it with the black (of course you are going to get in my top 3 with black). Secondly it’s formal, but not too formal. Thirdly the gold clutch and hair down, make this look work. I think that a lot of women would be a fan of this dress, as there is nothing to fault about it. Fourthly, does this dress come in a size 8?

Selena Gomez – Now everyone that knows me knows that I am not a big fan of colour, can we make these fluro colours disappear? Minus the flecks of fluros, this dress is a good look for the former Beibs’ girlfriend. The split in the leg, I love. The flash of the strappy silver shoes, I love. Her hair does need to look a little neater, considering that she is not going to a party, but a red carpet. Not everyone will be able to pull off this look (a lot of Hollywood tape is needed, but not even tape can  lift your breasts from gravitation), and the dress is quite fitted around the tummy. But if you are lucky enough to have the body to pull of this white look, you are sure to turn some heads.

Shania Twain – I am going to pretend that we are not at the Oscar’s (aka super formal), and I am also going to pretend that the knot on the torso of the dress isn’t there, because in your own words ‘that don’t impress me much’. However, I am sucker for a train. I love the colour of this, I love how your hair is down, but my number one this is the draping. The detail in the bodice is amazing (other designers take note). This dress is age-appropriate and flatters her body (man, she feels like a woman). Minus the knot, I would 110% wear this dress. Claps to Shania’s stylist.

WORST:

Alyssa Milano – Remind me again why she was invited? From the waist up you think, this is a not-so chic one shoulder Kimono-esque dress, teed with green (yes green) earrings, and a hairstyle that was completed by the apprentice; but from the waist down, a whole other story. When has a ‘Drouser’ (dress  trouser) been in fashion? Not to mention one that is wide in the leg, and sheer. Alyssa may have had magical powers in Charmed, but nothing can save her from appearing on this list. Well done Alyssa!

Jenny Mccarthy – No matter how flat your tummy is, if you are over the age of 30, and you are not by the swimming pool, we don’t want to see your stomach. Jenny is a mother, and if my Mum walked out of the house, let alone stumbled onto a red carpet with her stomach on show, I would be beyond embarrassed. Not only do we have the exposed stomach issue, we have a skirt that looks like it has been caught on the fence on her way out of her house. A short tank top, and a ripped skirt is definitely not red carpet worthy in my books.

Nayer – Where to start here? The long sleeve gloves? Bringing her dog onto the red carpet? Or that horrible jumpsuit. This jumpsuit is exposing way too much information for the red carpet, and the hood…is that really necessary? Someone needs to fire her stylist.

Whether you dress poorly because you are:
a) vision impaired
b) have a stylist that shares a similarity to Pinoccio
c) live by the motto ‘any publicity, is good publicity’; or
d) all of the above
You have officially made it to the Worst Dressed list (note: I would not be adding this to your Resume).
