Spots vs. Stripes

Stripes are seen in fashion collections each season. And each season designers try to reinvent the stripe with its thickness, the direction of the lines etc. The famous stripe has moved away from its stereotypical 'nautical' themed dress attire.

For those who are more self-conscious of their body type, a thicker, horizontal stripe is more forgiving; especially around the tummy and bust areas.

Whereas its arch enemy the spots, comes and goes. The spots remind me of a family photo that my grandmother has hanging proudly on her wall. Both my Mum, my Dad, and 2 year old me wore matching spots (cringe!). Perhaps that is why small dots are not so high up on my list?

The spot can work, if executed correctly. For example, the large spot:

When choosing a spotted or a striped piece ensure that all prints are the same. No one ever loved a garment that has a combination of thick and thin spots, or horizontal and vertical stripes.

Note: Spots and stripes should NEVER and I mean never be worn simultaneously. Choose 1 bold pattern per outfit, and go with it.
