Bag about you

I often have ladies ask me what I recommend for an every day black bag.

The key words here are ‘every day’. Every day means that it must be durable, as it will be used often.

Durable equals quality, which also equals spending money.

You might think $4000 is a lot of money to spend on a bag, but when you break it down $4000 divided by the 365 days of the year is equivalent to just under $11 a day.

And when you put it look that, $11 sounds reasonable for a bag that is not going to fall apart.

Keep in mind, one of the bags here is under $2000, so I am not saying that you need to spend double that money, however the rule of thumb for a bag is the more you spend, the more you will get out of your bag.

I love all 4 of these bags…2  I have, and 2  I want to have.

So here are my 4 faves:

Prada – This Saffiano is the most affordable bag of the bunch. Available in small, medium and large; a variety of coloured leather and hardware; and patent or non-patent. This bag is extremely durable (in terms of filling it up to the brim), however is quite heavy. The larger Saffiano’s do not come with a longer strap. The bag has many pockets, both small and large. One downfall to this bag is there is no main zip or button, which leaves all your goods on display; so keep an eye out for wandering hands. A good introduction to the world of designer bags.

Celine  - This Boston bag has been nicknamed the ‘Robot face’ (assuming this was thought of by a male). The bag has no affiliation whatsoever with Celine Dion (a good thing!). This bag again comes in a different array of colours and sizes. This beauty has become more and more into the limelight, thanks to celebrities like the Kardashians, Jennifer Stano and Nicole Richie. For us Melbournians, a little more on the difficult side to obtain, as we don't have any Celine boutiques (our flagship David Jones store has a very limited collection), so best to either make this baby yours by shopping on their online store (not one of those online stores that are selling them for 75% off....genuinely fake!), or a great excuse to travel interstate - NSW or QLD (or even overseas).

Chanel – This maxi classic quilted bag is my absolute favourite. Again coming in different leather, colours, sizes and hardware, the maxi bag is a must have for any designer addict. Double flap, and the maroon inside oozes Mademoiselle Coco. If someone said to me this is the bag that you have to use everyday for the rest of your life, I would be totally cool with that.

Hermes – The Birkin is one of the most exclusive bags of the group. Did somebody say a waiting list of three years (yes, THREE)? If you are patient enough to wait for a Birkin, it is worth forking out your life savings to invest in this piece. My biggest piece of advice for those lucky enough to make it to the top of these waiting list, is ensure that you choose a classic colour. Although a seasonal colour is rare, and could become somewhat of a collection item, you will never get over a black Birkin. Bring on 2016!
