Music Festival season

'Tis the season for musical festivals, and I am going to share with you some tips on how to look festival-ready, as well as enjoy your day with super comfortable choices.

Shoes
This is KEY for a good day at a music festival - you want to be fashionable, but at the same time comfortable. You want to also ensure that your shoes are not open (leave the sandals at home), as people will be prone to standing on each others feet in the mosh pitt; and you also want to ensure that your choice of footwear doesn't go too much over your ankle so that your feet don't sweat and slide.

For those who like a bit of a heel (sometimes too flat is not comfortable either), I would opt for a dark boot. This is something that you can definitely wear again, and give your outfit a bit of a rocker edge. Here are my picks from Senso.

For flat options, try an espadrille (a light one will become very unwearable from all the dirt, so try and opt for a darker colour). These espadrilles from Seed, range from $39.95 upto $79.95, and include some prints for those lovers of summer statements.

Bag
My definite pick for a bag for music festivals is a hip bag. These are so practical as you can sling it across your body - allowing you to be hands-free, and ensuring that no one tries to pinch any of your belongings, as you will have your bag in front of your body the whole day. Here are a few of my picks from Mimco (note: each of these can fit all the necessities, as well as having a well secured zip or clip to ensure no sneaky fingers)

Ensure when choosing the perfect hip, that you pick a bag that can fit all the essentials (money, ID, perfume/deodorant, tissues for those times where toilet paper in the porterloos go MIA - it happens, breath mints just in case you find a cute guy, festival tickets, mobile, your lipgloss/lipstick, little mirror....and your kitchen sink).

Hat
A hat does not only have to be practical to protect you from the Summer rays, but you can also incorporate it into your outfit. I have used some options from Witchery and Sportsgirl.
If the day is windy, the most practical option is the leather cap as you can thread your ponytail through to ensure that it does not fly off. The last thing you want to be doing is to hold your hat on your head whilst you're trying to enjoy the festival, or even worse chasing your hat throughout the stadium.

Sunglasses
Again, sunglasses do have the practical element so that you don't spend the whole time squinting through your favourite act. Here are a mix of tortoise shell and black sunnies from Sportsgirl and Mimco.

Clothing

My biggest prediction for this festival season are crops, crops and more crops. I also think leather-look skirts and shorts will be a big hit, as we see a move away from dresses.
My tips for appropriate festival dressing is to wear something comfortable - you don't want to spend the day readjusting your boobtubes. I think girls will be opting for looser garments, and brighter colours this time around (this could be A) because black clothing attracts heat; or B) if you are lost in a crowd, wearing a coloured outfit will have you more likely spotted in a sea of monochrome). Here are some looks from Bardot and Sportsgirl.

Everything in-between:

Make-up
Sunnies are a perfect excuse to wear minimal make-up - right? Pack on layers of your favourite mascara, with a good quality setting powder, to ensure that this doesn't run throughout the day (nobody likes panda eyes). This also goes for your foundation and bronzer. Use a bright, bold lip stain to ensure minimal touch-ups during the day. Lip stains are a very low maintenance alternative to a lipstick or lipgloss.

Hair
As 99.9% of festies will be wearing a hat, they will be pairing this with waves to give texture to their hair. No one wants to see a flat head with straight hair and a big hat.

Nails
Colour-blocking will definitely be featuring during festival season - whether these are bright colours, or pastels. However, standard monochrome mannies are still totally wearable.

Jewellery
Steer away from long necklaces and drop earrings - these will annoy you during the festival.
Instead it is all about the arm candy! Layer up your favourite wrist pieces and you are good to go.
Here is a little music festival look I put together using black, white, silver and red.

I hope this blog has inspired your festival look for this Summer.
